Built for Farm Country
When the Combines Run, Teeth Take a Beating
From the wheat and lentil fields of Whitman County to the rolling ground around Nez Perce and Lewis County, harvest on the Palouse means fourteen-hour days, meals eaten on the move, and very little time for anything that is not getting the crop in.
It is also when we see the most dental emergencies. Dust and grit, hard jerky and harder candy to stay awake, a clenched jaw through a long shift — cracked teeth, lost fillings, and sudden aches all spike while the equipment is running.
This page is a quick field guide: what counts as an emergency, what to do until you can get in, and how our Lewiston and Pullman offices keep same-day slots open for farm families all season.

Field Guide · Know the Signs
Harvest Emergencies and What to Do Until You Get In
Most harvest-season problems fall into a handful of buckets. If any of these hit while you are in the field, call us — do not head to the ER, because hospital emergency rooms can manage pain but cannot fix a tooth.
Call before noon on a weekday and there is a very good chance we can see you the same afternoon at whichever office is closest.
Cracked or Broken Tooth
Rinse with warm water and save any pieces. If there is a sharp edge, cover it with dental wax or sugarless gum until we see you.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Hold it by the crown, not the root. Keep it in milk and call right away. Minutes matter for saving it.
Lost Filling or Crown
The tooth underneath is exposed and can break down fast in the dust and grind of harvest. Come in soon.
Severe or Throbbing Toothache
Often a crack or infection. Rinse, floss gently to clear trapped debris, and call. Do not ride it out for days.
Swelling in the Jaw or Gums
A sign of infection that should not wait for the season to end. This one needs prompt attention.
Cut or Injured Gums and Lips
Field mishaps happen. Clean it, apply gentle pressure for bleeding, and call us if it is deep or will not stop.

Common Questions
Harvest-Season Questions We Hear
Straight answers for the busiest weeks of the year.
Long days, quick meals, dust, and hard-and-brittle snacks like jerky and hard candy all add up during harvest. We see more cracked teeth, lost fillings, and flare-ups in the weeks the combines are running than almost any other time of year.
Yes. We keep same-day slots open for emergencies and will try to find a window that fits a harvest schedule. Call first thing in the morning for the best shot at being seen the same day.
Yes, sooner rather than later. A break with no pain can still trap food, decay quickly, or crack further under a hard bite. Getting it looked at during a break beats an emergency in the middle of the busiest week.
We do. Farm families across the Palouse can reach us in Pullman, Washington or Lewiston, Idaho. Call either office and we will get you to whichever is closest and can see you soonest.
Pick it up by the crown, not the root, keep it in milk if you can, and call us right away. The sooner we see it, the better the odds of saving it, so do not wait until the day's work is done.
Often, yes. Tell us how many people and what is going on and we will do our best to group visits so you are not making the drive into town more than you have to.
